Texas Defenders Featured in Advocate Magazine for Restoring Historic Dallas Landmark

We're proud to announce that Texas Defenders was recently featured in Advocate Magazine for our restoration of a historic East Dallas building located at 3302 Swiss Circle—a property once home to Mrs. Hartgraves' Café, where Bonnie Parker worked as a teenager long before the era of Bonnie and Clyde.

Being recognized by a respected Dallas publication is an honor, especially when the story highlights not just our law firm, but our commitment to preserving Dallas history, investing in local neighborhoods, and building long-term roots in the communities we serve.

A Historic East Dallas Building with a Story to Tell

The building at 3302 Swiss Circle has deep ties to Dallas history. Originally constructed as a crescent-shaped retail strip, it later became Mrs. Hartgraves' Café, a modest restaurant that gained historical significance due to Bonnie Parker's connection to the site in the late 1920s.

Over the decades, the property cycled through various uses and eventually sat vacant, becoming a blighted structure despite its architectural character and location near Swiss Avenue and Lakewood. Rather than tear it down or erase its past, Texas Defenders chose to restore and repurpose the building, preserving its history while giving it new life as our Dallas headquarters.

Why We Chose This Location

Dallas isn't just where we practice law—it's home.

As a Dallas criminal defense law firm, we wanted our main office to reflect the values we bring to every case: respect for the past, attention to detail, and a willingness to do the hard work others overlook. Restoring a historically significant East Dallas property aligned perfectly with that mission.

The renovation transformed a long-neglected building into a functional, welcoming office while maintaining its unique architectural identity. Neighbors, preservation advocates, and community members have responded positively, and we're proud to be part of the continued revitalization of this area of Dallas.

A Dallas Criminal Defense Firm Invested in the Community

Texas Defenders represents clients across Dallas County, as well as Tarrant County, Collin County, Denton County, and surrounding North Texas communities. But our investment goes beyond the courtroom.

Choosing to restore a historic Dallas structure—rather than relocate to a generic office space—was intentional. It reflects our belief that strong legal advocacy and strong communities go hand in hand.

The Advocate Magazine feature highlights this connection, showing that Texas Defenders is not just practicing law in Dallas—we're actively contributing to the city's story.
